Is it good to be straightforward about your wishes with a new girl you are trying to date?

for example, there is a girl I have been talking to a lot recently, hanging out a little. I really want to be more than friends, and think she might be interested, but I don't really want to make things super awkward by making a move. Would it be good to just talk to her about it and tell her how I feel?
